Braintree Rivers Rotary History

Braintree Rivers Rotary Club was formed by members of the Braintree Area Rotaserv Club, following a decision by the Rotary International Board of Directors, in May 2000, to rescind its decision commending Rotaserv as a community service activity of Rotary clubs.

In June 2001, the Rotary Board of Directors announced the setting up of the "New Models for Rotary Clubs" pilot project, an international project involving up to 200 clubs, aimed at strengthening the Rotary organisation for the 21st Century. Braintree Rivers Rotary Club charted under this scheme, enabling the club to adopt a more flexible constitution, aimed at attracting new members into the Rotary Organisation.

We held our inaugural charter celebration on the 12th January 2002 at the Colne Valley Golf Club, where twenty nine founder members and guests enjoyed a charter night dinner.

On the 30th June 2007, the "New Models for Rotary Clubs" pilot project under which Braintree Rivers Rotary charted came to an end. Coinciding with this, the Rotary Board of Directors announced a new Rotary clubs pilot project to explore the effect club meeting frequency has on membership development. New Model and other clubs were invited to participate in this new pilot project to run from 1 July 2007 through 30 June 2013. The club committee and members voted to join this project, enabling the club to continue meeting twice a month with the aim of attracting new members into the Rotary Organisation.
