Paul Harris Fellowships
The Braintree Rivers Rotary Club is proud to have awarded the following individuals the "Paul Harris Fellowship", in recognition of their work within our community for others less fortunate than ourselves.
April 2011 - Rtn Sue Wallbank
Sue Wallbank has served on Club council in many different capacities including President, and continues to work tirelessly for Rotary. This year she is District Foundation committee secretary, whilst in the forthcoming Rotary year she will be organising the Young Musician competition. She is an excellent Ambassador for the Club. In the early days when perhaps some other Clubs did not know what to make of us and our different rules and customs, she was there promoting our club, and showing that we had something good to give to Rotary, and she continues to do this.
Outside of Rotary, she was Secretary of a local charity for several years being instrumental in raising over £20,000 during her term. She has also done a number of sponsored walks in aid of the Stroke Association and various breast cancer charities, raising several thousand pounds as a result.
In light of these and many other achievements, it is our sincere pleasure to present the Paul Harris Fellowship to Sue Wallbank.
April 2011 - Rtn Howard Davis
Howard Davis has not only been a Rotary President, but also a President of both Rotaract and Rotaserv, something that very few have achieved. He was a founder member of Braintree Rotaserv and key in getting that Club up and running. Bearing in mind that Rotaserv turned into Rotary it is no exaggeration to say that without his efforts there would not now be a Rotary Club of Braintree Rivers.
In the wider Community Howard has served as both member and as Chairman of Braintree Chamber of Commerce, and he is currently Treasurer for his Village Hall Management Committee, and is on the committee for Braintree Amateur Radio Club. Always read to volunteer for Community work he helped to build and continues to maintain our Xmas float, as well as helping his local Parish Council with litter picking expeditions, and maintenance of footpaths and local hedgerows. If that wasn’t enough, he also makes a mean drop of homemade cider to boot!
It is the greatest of pleasures to be able to present Howard Davis with the Paul Harris Fellowship.
May 2009 - Rtn Mechel Rowe

Mechel Rowe
Over the last four years, Mechel Rowe has worked extremely hard fundraising for Rotary and other charities. She completed a 20 mile cycle ride to raise funds for the Rotary Club of Chelmsford, walked 44k in 8 hours to raise just under £4,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Ran in the BUPA London 10k raising just under £1,000 (again for Breakthrough Breast Cancer), Ran the London Half Marathon and raised £250 for Little Havens Hospices.
After suffering an injury during training for the 2009 London Marathon, she continued to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, even though she was unable to take part.
Mechel was instrumental in setting up the first Braintree Rivers Rotary Club Golf Day, held in 2008, and worked extremely hard in 2009 to ensure the charity event was again a great success.
She supports the Braintree and Bocking Inner Wheel Club, by helping to sell chutneys and marmalades, and last but not least she's a dab hand at getting things for nothing!!!
Congratulations and thanks go to Mechel from all members of the club and the many people helped by her tireless fundraising. Mechel was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship award at the club Presidents Night on 16th May 2009 by Bob Barclay, District Governor Nominee.
April 2007 - Betty Roberts

Betty Roberts
Betty Roberts has worked with many charities raising much needed funds over the years. She has served on the "Friends of Samaritans" fundraising committee, a group of volunteers providing valuable assistance to the Samaritans by organising fundraising events and publicity.
She has also been involved with Teddies for Tragedy, hand knitting and collecting teddies for children in disaster zones who have lost everything, organised a collection of fifty "Joy Bags", handbags sent to women in war and disaster zones containing toiletries and sanitary wear and helped the Fistular Hospice.
Betty Roberts is the District Chairperson for Inner Wheel and is coordinating a project to raise £1,000 for the "National Endometriosis Society". She has personally raised £250 through the sale of home made jams and chutneys, never taking expenses to cover costs and is organising a collection of children's toys for "Convoy of Hope", a charity sending toys to Eastern Europe.
For her dedication to helping others, Betty Roberts was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship award by 2006/2007 District 1240 Governor Steve Munns at the Braintree Rivers Rotary presidents night held 28th April 2007. Congratulations and most deserved.
